PICC LINE PLACEMENT

SUPPLIES:
■    PICC line kit                                                        ●    10 cc syringe
■    Sterile towels                                                           ●    19 g needle
■    25 G 1-1/2" needle                                               ●    Bio-patch
■    18 G 1" needle                                                         ●    Tourniquet
■    Sterile gloves                                                             ●    Normal saline
■    Lidocaine                                                                           ●    OpSite
■    DuraPrep                                                                     ●    Two sterile caps
■    Hep-lock flush                                                           ●    Sterile drape -
■    Benzoin tincture (glue)                                         Converters Tiburon half sheet on rollaway cart
■    Sterile ultrasound probe cover
■    Sterile ultrasound gel
■    Antibacterial split dressing

PROCEDURE:
■    Have patient in gown
■    Have radiologist obtain consent
■    Have SonoSite ultrasound ready
■    After PICC line is placed, obtain film of cath tip
■    Dress PICC line with OpSite (shiny side up) then OpSite over that
■    Place new caps on ends of PICC linePlace new caps on ends of PICC line
Dr. Behrmann: Don't put gel in ultrasound probe cover prior to exam. He also prefers sterile attire, i.e., masks, hair bonnets, etc.
